Green Practices Compliment Cultural Heritage: A Community for Rumsey Tribe
One of Dorman Associates’ first major undertakings was a joint venture with Brent Smith Design of Sacramento in the creation of 18 custom homes, approximating 4,400 square feet each, and eight townhouses of about 2,400 square feet each, for the Rumsey Tribe, owners of Cache Creek Casino in the Capay Valley.  Our challenge as Project Architect was to see to fruition the construction of a genuinely unique collection of homes that evoked Native American heritage without resorting to clichés and followed Green principles while using cutting edge materials to cut energy costs, including Rastra construction. The result has attracted media attention both in terms of its aesthetic impact as well as the innovative and cost effective use of sustainable building materials.
