Children’s Center Campus
San Francisco Bay Area
A large Silicon Valley company sought to redefine corporate childcare using a Reggio inspired philosophy to design a campus village of centers. Each center was approximately 15,000 square feet and offered it’s own identity while maintaining a connection to the greater community. Included in the site was a large community garden and sustainable strategies to obtain a LEED Silver project rating. The campus included accommodations for infants and toddlers as well as preschoolers.
Sustainable strategies were employed to target a LEED silver rating including: Storm water collection and filtration, harvesting daylight through the use of clerestory window (as shown in the section below), natural ventilation and low VOC materials to eliminate off-gassing.
These centers focused on developing a procession for arriving children to transition into the classrooms, while creating a direct connection from indoors to outdoors to maximize site lines for teachers.
The project utilized building strategies that resulted in construction costs more than 30% less than similar type projects in that region. Our services included the site assessment and masterplan of the 6 acre parcel, schematic design, construction documentation and construction administration.
