Project Overview

A remodel of an existing house on a steep, wooded hillside in Mill Valley. The brief was to keep the house and make it live larger. The former garage becomes conditioned space, and the living room opens through a wide sliding wall of glass onto a covered outdoor room with a wood ceiling, so for most of the year the two rooms are one. A new roof deck with cable rail sits above the kitchen and dining area, up in the oaks. Inside, the existing rafters are exposed and whitewashed, skylights bring light down through the roof, and wood floors and oak-toned casework run through. Cedar siding, a standing-seam metal roof, dark-framed glass doors and windows, and a freestanding stove complete the palette.
